My owners were asked by Hounds and Friends to write their love story for me. But let’s be honest here, I am a ham and crave all the attention. I mean it’s the 21st century, dogs are taking over!! Has anyone seen A Dog’s Purpose?!?—a miraculous tear-jerker! And yet, all narrated by a dog (not a hooman to be clear). Thus, I decided to take the driver’s seat here, and write my own love story for my hoomans. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll let them have a small anecdote at the end. It all began when I was just a little boy pup in southern Florida. I was the smallest runt of the pack, always getting stepped on while my treats were stolen by my pitiful siblings. I mean it was a typical love-hate sibling relationship. Anyways, to my surprise, a nice family came to the private breeders in which I was born from. I think one night my daddy and mommy had one too many frosty paws and were feeling a little frisky, and well the result was the creation of lil ol’ me. I am still a little fuzzy on how that works, but eh the details aren’t so important when compared to the idea that I was now a part of this intriguing big new world. One talking point I like to brag about is I am for sure a PURE-bred English Cream Golden Retriever. No mutt-blood here! So, I am basically royalty! To jump ahead a little, I of course stole the hearts of this family, and was almost immediately adopted. The whole family was great, but I had a special bond with the boy of the house, Brandon. As just a little pup, my world was oh so small, but that was okay since Brandon was my world. A world full of so much love, cuddles, pets, and of course treats!
But...........unfortunately.........about two years down the road, Brandon did the worst possible thing to me. He REPLACED me with a girl. Some silly, petty, insignificant girl. He was head over heels for her, kind of like how I get over my dog bones. She took ALL his time and more importantly, his attention. The girl’s name was Skye. I have to say she was always nice to me and called me a good boy constantly. But it was so hard for me to accept her into my life as I realized I had to share Brandon. As much as I hate to admit my mistakes, I was a naive pup at the time. I was looking at the situation with a small-minded perspective. Brandon did not love me any less, but instead there was even more love now for me coming from the addition of Skye as well. There was so much love and happiness to go around. It reminded me of a quote I was quite fond of, “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” With this newfound appreciation, my world became just a little bit bigger and even more wonderful. The three of us packed our bags and began a new journey in the Pacific NW where I currently reside.
I am now 11 years old, but just like fine wine, I have only grown better with age. I may be geriatric age, but I am so old and happy. Brandon and Skye take me for hikes up these cool mountains, we go to dog parks where I sniff other old fart dogs’ butts, and my favorite activity of all—we cuddle in bed every night together. When I close my eyes each and every night after a long bright day of playing, I drift off into a safe and warm atmosphere where I know how loved and cherished I truly am. There is no better feeling in the world. I may have learned a lot over the course of my life, but one thing I knew even as a pup that never wavered for a moment, even in my late adult years, my hoomans are still my world. I may be just a part of their lives but to me, they are my whole life. Thank you Hounds and Friends for giving us this lovely opportunity to even grow even closer with our pup. Your apparel is so beautiful and made with so much love. And Renzo, you are such an integral part of our lives. We love you oh so much! Never ever forget that :)
This is Renzo’s and my story, what’s yours?
